CLAREMONT, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2016) – Senior Kc Emezie (Waxhaw, N.C. / Marvin Ridge) moved up to ninth in program history with his 1,041st career point on a tough shooting night for Caltech men's basketball at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, where the Beavers fell 61-45 on Saturday evening.
The defeat drops the Beavers to 4-5 in the SCIAC and 6-12 overall while the Stags improve to 8-9 (3-6). Caltech shot just 25 percent from the field and 18 percent beyond the arc while CMS couldn't miss, hitting 45 and 46 percent. and outrebounding the Beavers by 12.
The matchup was tight through the first eight minutes, with Caltech down just one at the 12:26 mark, but a 9-3 run over the next seven minutes saw CMS stretch out to a 19-10 lead. That margin held through halftime at 24-15 and the Beavers could only briefly pull within five before the hosts extended the lead to double digits and never looked back.
Emezie finished with eight points while junior Nasser Al-Rayes (Doha, Qatar / American School of Doha) added 13 points with eight rebounds and two blocks.
