CMS Puts on Shooting Display; Lango Moves in Top 10

PASADENA, CA – A lights out shooting effort helped propel ClaremontMuddScripps to an 83-52 win over Caltech on Wednesday.

For the game the visitors hit a SCIAC season high 65.9 percent (29-for-44) of their field goal attempts. Their eight made three-pointers on 11 attempts (72.7 percent) is also a league high shooting mark.

During the early minutes of the contest both teams were nailing their shots as ClaremontMuddScripps scored on the first four possessions while Caltech recorded a bucket during their first three. Less than three minutes into the game the Beavers held an 8-7 lead. The game's momentum completely swung towards the visitors from that point forward.

Over the next 11-plus minutes ClaremontMuddScripps went on a 28-5 scoring spurt to grab control of the contest.  The Stags, who came into the game atop the SCIAC standings, played their best offensive half of the season during the opening 20 minutes. They made the 17 of their 25 field goal attempts (68 percent), including a 4-for-6 effort from behind the arc, as they took a 44-22 lead into intermission.

A similar story unfolded in the second half as the Stags connected on 63.2 percent (12-for-19) of their field goal attempts. In the second half they missed one of their five three-point attempts.

Tyler Gaffaney scored a team high 17 points on the strength of a 7-for-9 shooting performance. The senior connected on his first six shots from the field. Shelby Lane and Jack Grodahl both hit four of their five shots as they scored 13 and 10 points respectively.

Caltech's Luke Lango put together one of the best nights of his young collegiate career. The first-year scored a career high 18 points on the strength of a personal best three made shots from behind the arc. He also dished out three assists. The San Diego, CA, native now has 64 assists which is tied for 10th most in a single season in Caltech history.

The Beavers host Redlands on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. in their final home game of the season.
