Caltech Athletics : Caltech Men Take La Verne to Overtime

The Caltech men played their second home overtime thriller in two weeks. The Beavers took the Leopards to OT in an upset bid, being outscored 12-6 in the extra frame falling 80-74. ULV made just two field goals in overtime but connected on all 8 free throw attempts to deny the Beavers' a long-awaited conference "W".

Caltech trailed at the half 37-38 and eventually pulled even at 68-68 at the end of regulation. A trio of Beavers scored in double figures: forwards Travis Haussler and Bryan Hires were a potent 1-2 punch in combining for 58 points. Haussler, the reigning SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week, totaled a game-high 30 points while Hires added 28 points along with Matt Delatorre scoring 11.

Just 10 days earlier (2/6), Caltech fell to the Bulldogs of the University of Redlands 97-88 in OT, the score was tied 84-84 at the end of regulation time.
