Beaver Fencers Compete at Orange Coast Event
LONG BEACH, Calif. – A handful of competitors from the Caltech fencing team participated at the 2012 Orange Coast tournament hosted by Long Beach State. In the non-NCAA event, several Beavers were competing for the first time.

Jon Schor competed in the sabre competition winning matches winning two matches in pool competition. The sophomore advanced to the round of 32 in the tournament portion of the event before falling.
Eugene Vinitsky also participated in the sabre event wining two matches in pool play as well. First year fencer Jonathan Bayless took part in his first competition and posting a win in his pool. Harrison Miller also competed for the first time and nearly pulled out a win but came-up just short.
Stan Schor won his first of five pool play competitions and lost by a single touch in two others before falling in the opening round of tournament play. Sidney Buchbinder fought hard during his pool play matches but couldn't get a victory in the event.
Eugene Vinitsky won one of his matches during pool play and nearly pulled out two more during his seven head-to-head competitions.
The Beavers travel to Evanston, Ill. this weekend for the Midwestern Invitational hosted by Northwestern. During the two-day event Caltech will fence against NCAA Division I schools North Carolina, Princeton, Duke and Northwestern among others.
