Caltech Continues SCIAC Play Against Whittier

The Caltech baseball squad continues conference play with a three-game weekend set against Whittier College.

Game One - Whitter 32, Caltech 1 (Boxscore)

Whittier put up multiple runs in the first four innings en route to a 32-1 win over Caltech on Friday afternoon.

Keith Hoefel went 5.0 innings on the mound for the Poets to earn the win. He struck out six of the 18 batters he faced while giving up three hits.

Brendan Sheehan, Nick Robertson and David Carrega each went 1-for-3 while Albie Lavin drove in the Beavers only run.

Game Two - Whittier 12, Caltech 2 (Boxscore)

The Beavers plated the game's first run in the top of the first when Blaine Matulevich scored an unearned run on an infield error. Whittier tied the score in the bottom half of the inning and took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the third.

After Caltech scored another run in the top of the fourth, the Poets grabbed the game's momentum with a five-run fourth inning.

Thomas Heavey went 1-for-3 with an RBI while Matulevich and Mason Freedman each tallied a hit and scored run for the Beavers.

The Poet's Casey Serna threw six innings of four-hit ball while striking out five on the mound.

Game Three - Whittier 12, Caltech 0 (Boxscore)

Whittier did most of their damage early in the game by scoring four run in the first inning then following that with three runs in the second.

Four Whittier pitchers combined to strikeout four while giving up six hits.
