Caltech Student-Athletes Honored

The 18th Annual Caltech All Sports Awards Show took place on Thursday evening at the Braun Athletic Center.

Over 75 percent of the student-athletes attended the Oscar style event. There were nine different award winners which were nominated by and voted on by the Caltech athletic department.

Winners for the 2011-2012 Academic Year --

Outstanding Frosh
This award is given to a freshman male and female student athlete who has made the most outstanding contribution intercollegiate athletics this school year.

Male Athlete -- Ben Grabowski (Water Polo, Diving, Track/Field)
Female Athlete -- Jacqueline Masehi-Lano (Swim/Dive)


Francis W. Davis Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year
This award is given to the female student athlete who has made the most outstanding contribution in intercollegiate athletics this school the award maybe given to a female student athlete in any class.

Team Sport - Teri Juarez (Volleyball, Basketball)
Individual Sport - Rebekah Kitto (Volleyball, Tennis)


Male Athlete of the Year
This award is given to the male student athlete who has made the most outstanding contribution in intercollegiate athletics this school. The award maybe given to a male student athlete in any class.

Team Sport - Brian Penserini (Water Polo, Baseball)
Individual Sport - Brice Nzeukou (Soccer, Track/Field)

Directors Award
This award is given to a senior student athlete (Male & Female) who has made the most outstanding contribution in intercollegiate athletics during their entire Caltech athletics career in terms of athletic performance and intangibles. This award is given to a senior who has a two-year minimum participation on an intercollegiate team.

Male - Peter Buhler (Swim/Dive)
Female - Wubing Ye (Tennis)

Most Outstanding Athlete
This award is given to the student athlete (male or female) who has made the most outstanding contribution in intercollegiate during their entire Caltech athletics career in terms of ability, loyalty, leadership and interest. By the wish of the donor, the award shall be presented only in such years as there is a worthy outstanding athlete. More than one athlete may receive this award if they are worthy of recognition. Although it is not required, it is recommended the nominee be a senior.

Jessica Swallow (Swim/Dive, Track/Field)
Caitlin Regan (Water Polo, Swim/Dive)

Also recognized were Tony Tong and Jessica Swallow as the Beavers SCIAC Scholar Athlete.

Peter Buhler and Megan Larisch were honored by their fellow student-athletes as Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year in the first year the awarded was presented.
