Caltech Athletics Welcome New MascotMay 15, 2008
![]() Seminar Weekend 2008 - The Caltech Athletic Department has welcomed a new member to the team. 1953 Alum, John Gee and his wife Barbara have generously provided funding for a new professionally designed and built Beaver suit to replace the old tired and tattered one that regularly made appearances at home contests. Student-athletes Katherine Breenden and Rene Davis worked with Director of Athletics, Wendell Jack to come up with the new design. Jack contacted several vendors before settling on Street Characters of Alberta, Canada to make the new custom costume. "It was a goal of ours to make a fun and kid friendly character that embodied the look and feel of nature's engineer and who better than a Canadian group to provide our Beaver as our neighbor to the north know and love this animal" joked Jack. Street Characters is one of the top makers of mascot costumes in the world with the Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Steelers and San Jose State University among the many that they have produced.
