Overview

The mission of the Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation is to develop the physical, social, and emotional skills of Caltech students necessary for the cultivation of a sound mind in a sound body. The Department seeks to encourage participation in a balanced program of individual and group activities through a variety of intercollegiate, physical education, club, intramural, and informal recreation activities intended to meet the needs of all members of the community.

It is the goal of the Caltech Recreation Program:

  • To ensure a safe environment, we must provide well-maintained facilities, properly operating equipment, appropriate supervision, recognized standards and successful program practices.
  • To ensure excellent service, we must provide programs and procedures that are fun, social, welcoming, inclusive, consistent, ethical and fair
  • To promote personal wellbeing, we must provide a comprehensive program of recreation emphasizing individual fitness, structured group activities, team sports and healthy lifetime pursuits.
  • To develop leadership, we must provide opportunities in a professional, educational setting through student-directed programs, collective and collaborative decision-making and personal responsibility.

These individuals are approved by the Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation to offer professional personal training services to the Caltech community. This is a fee-based, contracted service between the client and the professional personal trainer. Cost is $55 per each one-hour session.

 Participation Notice
Use of the Braun Athletic Center and other athletic facilities including participation in recreation activities at these facilities ("use of athletic facilities") is voluntary and at user's own risk. Use of athletic facilities is not required, as part of Caltech employment, and workers' compensation coverage is not provided.
Users of Caltech's athletic facilities have the responsibility to consult with their physician to determine if medical conditions exist that would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the user or others.
